Throughout my reading of the life of Frederick Douglass what really interested me was unjust in the court system. It was not surprising to me to see that slaves were not given fair treatment under law. The slaves were not treated as people but as property. How could the people in that time treat slaves the same as cows. I believe twice in this book we see examples of this. Very early in the book a slave named dimbe is shot. There was some investigation on the murder, but not to convict his murderer, but to see just why he did it. And again later when Frederick is beaten on the ship yard.
